This week’s a Mike pick, a novel that found its way onto an awful lot of Best of 2013 lists. Schroder is about a man who scoops up his daughter, puts her into a (possibly borrowed, possibly stolen) Mini Cooper, and runs away from his wife. And, in a certain sense, from himself. The book is Gaige’s third, though it’s the first of hers either of us has read.
We talk about unreliable narrators, jailhouse confessions, Nabokov comparisons, and identity fraud. Also: another installment of Tom’s Raccoon News, plus Sticks and Stones.

I always enjoy your dispatches from the book fairs. Following a couple self-published authors traveling the book fair circuit sounds like a ripe subject for a really good documentary.
